From gold rush town to a modern American metropolis at 5,280 feet.
Dating back to the wild west and gold rush eras, Denver has figured heavily in the country's rich cultural history. Today, it has become a dynamic city that boasts a wealth of things to do and see. The city is known for its lively arts and music scene, as well as its beautiful parks and outdoor spaces, nestled in a basin at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Residents can conveniently explore local museums and galleries, attend live music performances, and participate in cultural events like the Denver Arts Festival. Additionally, the city's many parks and nature reserves provide ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking, and skiing.
One of the top local attractions in Denver is the Denver Art Museum, which features an extensive collection of contemporary and traditional art from around the world. The city is also home to several other museums, including the Colorado History Museum and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. For those interested in sports, the city's professional sports teams, including the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and Colorado Rockies, provide exciting entertainment options throughout the year, playing out of the three arenas situated within a three mile radius of each other, downtown.
There was once a time where dining out in Denver was not nearly as diverse or exciting as it is today. With population growth has come an influx of top-rated chefs and restauranteurs offering Denverites a plethora of culinary excursions. From classic American cuisine to international flavors, you're going to find something to love in the city. If you're hungry, we highly recommend Guard and Grace, Sushi Hai, and The 9th Door. If you're interested in doing a little shopping, or simply engaging in some people-watching, the 16th Street Mall is a must-visit destination, offering a pedestrian-friendly outdoor shopping experience with a variety of local and national retailers. There is always something happening downtown and it's not uncommon to stumble upon something fun to do, completely by chance!
Denver residents enjoy an active and outdoorsy lifestyle, thanks to the city's proximity to the Rocky Mountains and abundant green spaces. Many locals are passionate about hiking, skiing, and other outdoor activities, and you'll often find them hitting the trails on weekends or after work. The city also boasts a thriving food and craft beer scene, with many residents embracing the farm-to-table movement and supporting local breweries. Additionally, Denver is a cultural hub, with diverse neighborhoods and museums celebrating the city's rich history and contemporary arts scene. Of course, no discussion of Denver lifestyle should go without mentioning how much locals and natives love their local sports teams, as the city boasts the most dedicated fanbases for both professional and college sports you will find anywhere. Overall, the local lifestyle in Denver is one of adventure, community, and appreciation for the natural beauty and cultural richness of the area.
Once upon a time, the culinary options for Denver residents were fairly limited and often disappointing to visitors from more metropolitan locales. Not so anymore! Today, the city boasts a dynamic dining scene, with options ranging from casual eateries to upscale restaurants. Among our personal favorites are Guard & Grace, Sushi Hai, and The 9th Door. Guard & Grace is a contemporary steakhouse in the heart of downtown that offers an extensive selection of meats, including Wagyu beef and dry-aged steaks, as well as seafood dishes and an impressive wine list. The restaurant's chic decor and attentive service make it a popular spot for special occasions. This author believes that Sushi Hai comes the closest to his favorite Los Angeles sushi spot of any in metro Denver; the restaurant has a modern and trendy Japanese-inspired decor with a great selection of sushi, along with creative and traditional rolls. The fish here is always very fresh and the prices are very reasonable, considering the quality. The 9th Door, on the other hand, is a tapas bar and restaurant located in LoDo, which serves a variety of small plates inspired by Spanish and Mediterranean cuisines. It is our opinion that it's impossible to pick something off of Chef Brian's menu that you will not love. The entertainment scene in Denver is bustling, with a huge number of music venues and nightclubs to choose from. A drive along Colfax Avenue alone will reveal no fewer than four theaters featuring popular bands and if it's night life you seek, look no further than Bar Standard, Milk Bar, The Church, and Club Vinyl, to dance the night away.
Denver is a city with plenty of activities and attractions to keep visitors entertained all year long. Those looking for outdoor adventures can head to Rocky Mountain National Park, located just a short drive from the city. The park offers breathtaking views of the mountains, hiking trails, and opportunities for wildlife spotting. For a more urban adventure, visitors can explore the city's many museums and galleries, such as the Denver Museum of Nature & Science or the Clyfford Still Museum. Art enthusiasts will also enjoy the city's vibrant street art scene, with murals and installations located throughout the city. Finally, sports fans can catch a game at one of the city's professional sports venues, such as Coors Field for baseball or Empower Field at Mile High for football. If you're looking for date night activities, be sure to check out EscapeWorks Denver or Escapeology and test your collective wits, or head to Urban Putt for a fun twist on mini-golf. And for the artistically inclined, the Meow Wolf art installation is a fun way to spend an afternoon getting lost in a fantasy world. The city always has something new opening up, so it's very unlikely you will ever get bored here.
